Sierra Hearing Center’s audiologists provide comprehensive hearing testing. This allows the audiologist to determine whether you have a hearing loss and if so the degree and type. Test procedures used are pure-tone air and bone conduction, speech reception threshold, and speech discrimination testing. During testing the patient is seated in a sound-proof room. All test results are explained in detail. If the results indicate that you are a hearing aid candidate the audiologist with discuss hearing aid options with you.

The audiologists of Sierra Hearing Center are affiliated with Ear Nose and Throat Specialists of Reno Nevada. If your tests results indicate that you should be evaluated by an Ear Nose and Throat doctor, our audiologists will assist you in making an appointment.

If you are a hearing aid candidate, the audiologist will provide you with a hearing evaluation and discuss the hearing aid circuitry and hearing aid styles appropriate for your hearing loss. In addition the audiologist will address your questions or concerns. Once you make a decision on hearing aid style and hearing aid circuit, an ear impression is made. The impressions are then sent to the appropriate hearing aid manufacturer. It usually takes 7 to 10 days for the new hearing aids to arrive in our office. Wearing hearing aids requires a period of adjustment. Once the new hearing aids arrive from the factory, the audiologist will program the hearing aid circuits using your hearing test results. The hearing aid fitting usually takes one hour. The audiologist will encouraged you to bring a family member or friend to this appointment. The audiologist will provide detailed verbal and written instructions regarding hearing aid use and hearing aid care. Follow-up visits, with the audiologist, will be scheduled to fine-tune the hearing aid circuits. Most new hearing aid users require two follow-up visits.

Maintenance and Repair

For best performance, hearing aids should be cleaned daily by the wearer, and checked regularly by an audiologist. Our audiologists will recommend an appropriate hearing aid maintenance schedule for each patient. The hearing aid manufacturer performs most hearing aid repairs. However, the audiologists of Sierra Hearing Center are able to perform minor repairs in the office. We request that patients within the Reno, Sparks, and Carson City areas schedule an appointment with one of our audiologists. The audiologists will assess the problem and advise you as to whether or not the hearing aid can be repaired in the office.
